SSH RSA Authentication with PuTTY

SSH RSA Authentication With PuTTY

Read these instructions in their entirty before beginning the process

1) Download PuTTY & PuTTY Key Generator (putty.exe & puttygen.exe)
2) Open puttygen, select SSH-1 (RSA) SSH-2 RSA under parameters. Click Generate.
3) Move mouse until random number generation is complete
4) Copy the public key information from the top window to your clipboard
5) log in to the server with password authentication
6) mkdir .ssh; cd .ssh
7) vi authorized_keys paste from puttygen into authorized_keys (push “i” for insert mode, then paste)
If the file already has keys listed, add the new key as the last line in the file
9) exit & save from vi by typing “:wq”
10) in puttygen click “save private key”, then save it to a safe location on your
hard drive that is not accessable to other users
11) Load your putty profile for the selected server, go to Connection/SSH/Auth
12) Click browse and select your private key file saved in step 10
13) Go up one level to connection/ssh
Choose “1 only” or “1″ for Preferred SSH protocol version if you selected “SSH-1 (RSA)” in step 2
Choose “2″ or “2 only” for Preferred SSH protocol version if you selected SSH-2 RSA in step 2
14) Save profile
15) You are done.

As just about everybody knows, there’s been record flooding here in southeast Kansas. Thankfully, we weren’t effected directly the the flooding as our house is up on a hill on the west side of town - the east side is what got flooded. We did have some rainwater penetration though, which ruined our carpets downstairs

I’m also glad to report that none of my close friends and family were effected by the flooding, though one of Sandy’s best friends in highschool lost her home in Neodesha

I love it when upgrades work right!

I just love it when software upgrades actually work. I just updated to the latest version of wordpress and it was quite smooth. Also installed akismet to tell the spammers to FOAD.
